A place to practise.

Huayen Monastery in the Lugu hills of Nantou runs a 21-day short-term ordination several times a year, in which lay people live by the monastery's timetable of chanting, Buddha-name recitation, study and work. The next run is 6-27 December 2026, and four more are scheduled for 2027. The activity fee is NT$5,000. Teaching is in Chinese, so confirm accommodation and age rules before applying from abroad.

Time & commitment

21-day short-term ordination: 6-27 December 2026 (registration open); 2027 runs 7-28 March, 16 May-5 June, 25 July-15 August and 5-26 December. The 2027 calendar also lists roughly monthly five-day meditation camps (忍可禪修五日營).

Joining from overseas

Overseas participants addressed. Must attend all 21 days, follow the group timetable, look after oneself, manage stairs and be free of contagious illness. The 2023 brochure set ages 18-60 (not restated for 2026). The application form takes a passport number from overseas applicants.
